Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical Procedures
Serving Patients In Miramar & Pembroke Pines
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a unique field within dentistry. While many dentists have some training and experience in select surgical procedures, an oral surgeon specializes in performing these surgeries with expert skill. At our Pembroke Pines location, Dr. Edgar Navarette is a dedicated oral surgeon who can help you overcome dental health problems such as impacted teeth or infected dental pulp as well as prepare you to receive a dental implant more successfully. Premier Dental Center provides oral and maxillofacial surgery for patients in Pembroke Pines, Miramar, and beyond.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth
When a tooth cannot grow in completely, it creates a condition referred to as dental impaction. As the last teeth to erupt into the smile, wisdom teeth occasionally fail to emerge successfully. This may be due to difficulties in growth, where the teeth develop at an angle, sideways, or simply too close to other teeth to properly erupt. To prevent future issues, including dental erosion or misalignment, impacted wisdom teeth may need to be removed. Our oral surgeon in Pembroke Pines can surgically extract impacted wisdom teeth, as well as other impacted teeth, saving your smile.
While one of the most common and successful treatments for addressing dental decay, traditional root canal therapy may not be enough to completely restore a tooth’s inner health. If infection is persistent and your oral health does not improve after root canal therapy is performed, then the next step could be apical surgery, otherwise known as an apicoectomy.
To help these teeth survive within the smile, Dr. Navarette can perform apical surgeries for our patients. During this procedure, he numbs the affected tooth and removes the tip of the root, as well as any infected soft tissue near it. The root is then sealed off with a body-safe filling material to prevent infection from reoccurring.
Preliminary Dental Implant Surgery
Dental implants are popular, effective solutions for rebuilding smiles that are missing teeth. However, not everyone is immediately a candidate, as a certain level of bone density is required to support most implants. To help patients become eligible to receive implants, Dr. Navarette can perform bone grafting and sinus lifts, among other augmentation procedures.
